Fast Food Oils

I took this picture at a large chain retailer during the holiday season of 2015. I love seeing aromatherapy getting the attention it deserves! Next to the diffusers was a display of "essential oils". I use quotes becaused they were labeled as such, but they were nothing more than synthetics from the perfume industry, possibly with 5% true essential oil mixed in. Do you know the perfume industry allows the essential oil bottle to carry the label "100% pure", even if it isn't?!

I call these low quality essential oils "fast food oils" because they will do for your body what fast food restaurants will do nutritionally. If you are hungry, fast food may temporarily satiate your hunger, but it does not give your body the building blocks needed to grow strong and healthy. In fact, most will agree fast food restaurants can do harm to your body, especially after you eat there repeatedly.

Here is what I look for from an essential oil supplier:

  • Supplier owns their farms and oversees the growth, harvest, and distillation

  • Farms are free from pesticides and chemicals

  • EOs are tested to contain optimal levels of bioactive compounds

  • Supplier must be transparent in the process

Generally speaking, there are four different grades of essential oils. Although, essential oil labels are monitored by the perfumery industry and are not always truthful. That's why +OILS can only recommend Young Living since we have seen the farms and understand their Seed to Seal process.

Synthetic

  • Nature identical oils.

  • Created in a laboratory.

Extended/Altered

  • Considered fragrance grade because they are used for aroma only.

  • Offer minimal or undetectable levels of important plant compounds.

Organic

  • Labeled as natural.

  • From plants that pass growing standards, but may or may not contain optimal levels of important plant compounds found in Therapeutic Grade essential oils.

  • Usually comes heavily diluted to decrease the price.

Therapeutic

  • Extracted from sustainably raised plants.

  • Contain optimal levels of natural plant compounds found in organic botanicals.

  • Approved for internal use (read the label)

  • Not diluted

  • Produced by companies that own their own farms to oversee “Seed to Seal” Standard

If you are truly interested in oils, do not settle for "fast food oils." Don't get oils from a company that saw Young Living's sales increase and recently decided to capitolize on the essential oil industry. QUALITY matters and makes ALL the difference. Young Living has been passionately sourcing and growing their plants for over 20 years and the Seed to Seal process guarantees the purity that you and your family deserves.
